Taps play an important role in any home since they dispense the water and they must be kept in good working condition otherwise it can get very frustrating for users. The common problems associated with taps include leaking or even noise problems. There are ways to repair taps but sometimes you will need to replace a tap altogether. The following shows you a number of basic repairs that can be undertaken to improve the condition of your tap.
If you have a leaky tap don’t worry because this is one of the most common plumbing problems which is very easy to repair. If you don’t immediately repair a dripping tap it will result in a higher water usage bill. A drip is caused by the seepage in the water supply and when the water supply enters via pressure there is a watertight seal restraining incoming water when your tap handle is turned off. Water can seep through the tap if the washer or seat is not functioning properly and all you need to do is replace the washer or repair the seat.
Firstly, turn off the water supply so you can fix your tap drip. You will then need to remove the tap handle by unscrewing the screens on the top or at the back of the tap handle. Look at the tap assembly carefully once you have removed the handle and use a wrench or a pair of pliers to remove the packing nut. Then remove the screw that holds the washer and replace them if they are damaged.
If you need to replace your tap it is fairly simple for a plumbing amateur with a set of easy-to-follow instructions. A new tap will not only eliminate those drips, noise issues and leaks but can improve the appearance of your bathroom and kitchen fixtures.
